NYC Theatre Spaces Receives Grant
from Lower Manhattan Development Corporation
Funds will be put toward development of New York City's most
up-to-date, free resource on theatre and literary rehearsal and performance spaces in the city.
March 15, 2006
(New York, N.Y.) - NYC Performing Arts Spaces received word on Tuesday, March 7, that the Lower Manhattan
Development Corporation (LMDC) had awarded it a generous grant toward the development and operation of its NYC Theatre
Spaces website. This is the result of the special commitment NYC Theatre Spaces has made to locate and promote spaces
in Lower Manhattan, helping to spur the cultural revitalization of the area.
The NYC Theatre Spaces website will be unveiled in late 2006, giving New York City's theatre community an
unsurpassed, up-to-date resource for finding spaces suitable for rehearsals, auditions and performances. At its launch,
www.nycTheatreSpaces.org will list over 500 spaces throughout the city's five boroughs for theatrical performances, as
well as poetry and literary readings. The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York) is a strategic
partner in the project.
Funding allocations were based on criteria established by the LMDC Board, and included: ability of the proposed
project to spur long-term Lower Manhattan revitalization; programmatic excellence; capacity to leverage additional
investments in culture in Lower Manhattan; organizational and fiscal viability; and durability as an investment.

NYC Performing Arts Spaces, the nonprofit sponsor of NYC Theatre Spaces, is the only organization
that focuses solely on resolving performing artists' needs for rehearsal and performance space. Its programs and
services, including www.nycMusicSpaces.org and www.nycDanceSpaces.org, are free of charge to both performing artists
seeking rehearsal and performance spaces and facilities who list spaces. No membership or registration is required.
