Two Free Websites Serve Critical Space Needs of NYC Performing Artists

August 1, 2003

www.nycmusicplaces.org and www.nycdancespaces.org:

  • address an important need for musicians and dancers in New York City: finding rehearsal and performance space.
  • offer a free, easy and time-saving way for musicians and dancers who need rehearsal or performance space to research and locate appropriate spaces throughout New York City's five boroughs.
  • provide a free service for facilities with suitable underused space - from professional venues to alternative spaces, such as educational institutions and community centers - to generate needed income.

The NYC Music Places website enables musicians to search for spaces based on important criteria, such as size, rental rate parameters, secure storage, neighborhood and more. The NYC Dance Places website lets dancers to look for spaces based on dimensions of the dancers' area, amenities, available equipment, and other rental specifics. Once these criteria are entered, a list of "matches" appears. Contact information is also provided, so that the user can arrange a site visit or check availability; the websites do not book the spaces.

Exploring the Metropolis, Inc., the nonprofit sponsor, is the only organization that has as its sole focus resolving the workspace needs of performing artists. It is committed to identifying and helping to create spaces for the performing arts through both web and non-web services. Completing its database service for New York's performing artists, NYC Theatre Places will begin development in late 2003. More information about these resources is available at www.xtmnyc.org.

We hope you'll explore www.nycmusicplaces.org and www.nycdancespaces.org and share the news of these important website resources.
