"Where Can We Work?": A Report on Workspace Availability for New York City Musicians
Find out more and download the report
NYC Performing Arts Spaces (formerly Exploring the Metropolis, Inc.) is the only nonprofit organization that focuses
solely on resolving performing artists' needs for rehearsal and performance space. We take a multi-faceted approach, providing valuable free services to both the performing artists who need
appropriate work spaces and the facilities who offer them.
To see what this means in practice, visit our program websites:
The NYC Music, Dance and Theatre Spaces websites:
- Identify suitable rehearsal and performance spaces in New York City, reaching well beyond the professional venues.
- Provide detailed rental information about hundreds of rentable spaces, at no cost to users. No membership or registration is required.
- Save performing artists time and money by enabling them to locate the facilities that best meet their budgetary and artistic needs.
- Enable facilities to generate much-needed income by publicizing their available spaces online free of charge.

"In a town where nobody
has time or space, NYC Music Spaces is the perfect resource. It is fast,
comprehensive and easy to use."
Fred Sherry, Cellist
Faculty, The Juilliard School;
Artist Member, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
Our Research and Data
NYC Performing Arts Spaces also looks for opportunities to create new spaces that address the specialized needs of
performing artists. For example, in 2004 our feasibility study recommended the creation of a dedicated, nonprofit
rehearsal center for New York City-based professional orchestras. Read more about our study findings and
recommendations under About the Organization.
Our data, based on website usage and analyses of the facilities that list spaces with us, is the only source of
information on the supply and demand of rehearsal and performance spaces in New York City's five boroughs.
